The NDA (National Defense Academy) exam is a national exam conducted twice a year by the UPSC (Union Public Service Committee) to fill vacancies in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This national examination occurs in more than 41 cities in India. NDA 2021 (I) exam is expected to be conducted on 18th April 2021 and the second exam exam will take place on 5th September 2021.

The recruitment process consists of two stages. The first stage of NDA 2021 is a written test, which will be conducted in offline mode (pen and paper). Candidates who take the written test will be eligible for the next stage of personal interview. Candidates can refer to all the information mentioned on portal before applying.

  • Citizen of India
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • Subject of Nepal
  • Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement in India.
  • Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanent settlement.

NDA Exam Age Limit

  • Candidates born between January 2, 2002 and January 1, 2005 are eligible to take the NDA II 2021 exam.
  • Female candidates and married candidates are not eligible to apply for the exam.
  • Minimum Age: 15.7 years (no later than January 1, 2005) or 16 years during the course.
  • Maximum Age: 18.7 years (not earlier than January 2, 2002) or 19 years during the course.

NDA Exam – Educational Qualification

  • For the Army Wing of the National Academy of Defence: Students must have passed the Class 12 exam conducted by the State Education Board or University.
  • For the Air Force and Naval Wings of the National Defence Academy: One must have passed the 12th level exam or equivalent in Physics and Mathematics courses conducted by the state education committee or university.

NDA Exam – Physical Standards

Candidates seeking to take the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy exams must be in good health and meet the physical standards set by the command authority.

Please Note: Candidates who resign or drop out of any armed forces training academy for disciplinary reasons are not eligible to apply for the exam.

NDA Exam (II) Application Process

The NDA-II application will start on 9th June 2021, and the final date of submission of the application form is 29th June 2021. Candidates can apply for the exam from the Prepp portal itself.

Application form Fee

Candidates can only apply for the exam online. Candidates can pay the application fee online or through offline mode. The application fee of INR 100 can be deposited in cash to any branch of SBI, or can be paid using SBI’s online banking service or debit / credit card. 

Candidates who choose the “cash payment” mode should print the payment slip generated by the system and deposit the fee at the SBI branch on the next working day. 

Candidates belonging to SC / ST / JCO / NCO / OR are exempted from application fees. Candidates must upload the most recent photo and signature in the required format. A page containing the registration number of the candidate will be generated. Candidates must print this page

Documents need for application process

When filling out the NDA 2021 application form, candidates will need to upload certain documents as mentioned on the Government Exam Portal. These documents must follow the standards set by the testing agency. 

Candidates must upload their latest passport-sized photo, which was taken against a white background and signed in blue or black ink. The other specifications related to these documents that candidates must follow are shown below.

  • Photograph: File Size – 3 to 40KB in JPG Format
  • Signature: File Size – 1KB in JPG Format

NDA Exam Pattern

  • Paper-I (Mathematics): Number of questions – 120, Marks – 300, Duration – 150 mins.
  • Paper-II (General Ability): Number of questions – 150, Marks – 600, Duration – 150 mins.

NDA Marking Scheme

  • Maths Paper – 2.5 is allotted for every correct answer & 0.83 is deducted for every wrong answer.
  • General Ability – 4 marks is allotted for every correct answer & 1.33 deducted for every wrong answer.
