Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited three cities to know the development of the Corona vaccine being made in the country.
After Ahmedabad, he is now in Hyderabad. Here Modi reached the research center of Bharat Biotech, a company making indigenous vaccine ‘Covaxin’.
He congratulated the scientists for the success achieved in the trial so far. Modi said- his team is working closely with ICMR to expedite its process.
Coronavirus Vaccine Candidates in India
1. ZyCOV-D: Zydus Biotech is developing its vaccine Zykov-D. Phase-3 trials of this vaccine have started. This vaccine from Gujarat based Zydus Biotech is completely indigenous.
2. Covaxin:
Bharat Biotech has joined hands with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to manufacture covaxin. Its Phase-III trials have started.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has got a dose of this vaccine in a hospital in Ambala Cantt. If the vaccine proves to be effective in large-scale trials, the company will apply for regulatory approval early next year.
3. Covishield:
The Serum Institute of India has partnered with UK company AstraZeneca and Oxford University to produce Corona Vaccine Covishield. SII produces the highest number of vaccines in the world. Experts and government officials believe that this vaccine will be available first in India.
Trials of CoviShield’s last phase have been done in two ways. The first one looked 62% effective, while the second saw over 90%. On average, effectiveness has been around 70%.
