The Supreme Court has given Tamil Nadu three months to identify suitable land in every district for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, while declining to recall its earlier direction.
The bench said the immediate requirement was to identify land, not acquire it, and urged the Centre and Tamil Nadu to continue discussions on language policy, funding and implementation. The State’s objections include the proposed three-language model and the role of Hindi.
This is a compliance and consultation direction linked to an earlier order; it does not mean that schools have already been established or that a blanket Hindi mandate has been issued.
